Project Desctiption

South Bay Expressway is a first class express toll road extending the current SR-125 highway 10 miles from SR-54 in Spring Valley, through eastern Chula Vista, to SR-905 in Otay Mesa near the International Border. This new connection offers motorists a fast, reliable and scenic drive, while providing convenient access to Downtown, Sorrento Valley, I-8, I-15 North, Otay Mesa and Mexico. The northern portion of the project, the Gap and Connector, costs approx. $140 million links South Bay Expressway to the existing freeway network, filling in a critical gap for San Diego motorists. The southern portion of the project, South Bay Expressway, a first class toll road, costs approximately $635 million and privately financed by CTV.

Our Role

Comprehensive materials testing, inspection and materials engineering services as part of the design-build team, Washington Group International. Sequoia was a sub-consultant to Signet Testing Labs, the prime consultant tasked with QC services. The scope included materials engineering, field and laboratory materials testing, plant inspection, source inspection. The entire testing crew consisted of over twenty materials testers, plant inspectors and materials engineers as well as three onsite laboratories.
